Planning to Remodel?
A third-party wipe test is an EPA procedure that can verify that the interior was cleaned properly and there is no trace of residual lead-based paint dust. Such testing is vital if you have children six or younger in the home, if a child has an elevated blood lead level, or anyone in the house is pregnant. Lead is a neurotoxin especially harmful to young children and proven to cause permanent brain damage. You can find out more information in this video and this video.
Before signing a contract with a remodeling company, discuss your lead paint concerns with them. You can possibly withhold a portion of the final payment until your home has passed a third-party dust wipe test from an EPA-certified firm.
If you plan to remodel your home, the City of Rochester has funds available to make the property lead-based paint safe. You can learn more here.
Test for Radon
If your radon level is 4 pCi/L or higher, fix your home. If your radon level is 2 pCi/L or higher, consider fixing your home. Radon is odorless and invisible and permeates through concrete floors and basement walls. It is the number two cause of lung cancer behind cigarette smoking.
Let us conduct radon gas testing for you to provide the information you need. We also offer soil testing as well to determine its condition and the presence of any contaminants.
